Thorougly Modern Dresden Workshops

One Day Workshop
Students can choose projects from the book selecting within their ability and project desire. Understanding that a table runner will be close to completion, where as a larger quilt project will not. 

Suggested Projects for one day workshop:

  • Blue & Yellow Sunshine
  • Christmas Wreath
  • Polka Dot Daze
  • Triple Deck
  • Amazon's Horizon
  • Farfalle
  • Table Runner

Workshop content:

  • Construction of Dresden Tops :Straight,3-D top,  Peaked, and 3 sided top 
  • New Flip-and-stitch construction technique
  • Appliqué stitches to include, Buttonhole and invisible by hand and machine.
  • Assistance of students needs on their project.
  • Quilt top construction.
  • Quilt Finishing techniques
  • Dresden Quilting designs

Two Day Workshop
With a two day workshop students are able to get additional instruction on more complicated designs and piecing techniques such as Curved Top Blades and Split Blades. In addition it allows students to get much further along in finishing the quilt top.

Suggested Projects for one day workshop:

  • Projects from one day workshop plus the following:
  • Romancing the Reds
  • German Chocolate
  • Gypsy Summer
  • Abendessen Tablerunner

Workshop content:

  • One day workshop content plus the following:
  • Split Top and curved top blade construction.
  • Adding Sashing to the Quilt.
  • Extended teaching on putting quilt top together and quilting designs

Three to Five Day Workshop
The three day workshop allows students to construct more difficult techniques. We will be able to explore design possibilities and students can create their own designs. Students will have the time to get their project closer to completion.

Suggested Projects:

  • Projects from the other workshops plus the following:
  • Flower Power Sampler- This sampler uses all of the variations of blade tops and sizes. Students can become familiar with all of the techniques while completing one quilt.
  • Students can begin to discover variations of the designs from the book and create new designs of their own

Workshop content:

  • One and two day workshop content plus the following:
  • Creating an original design
  • Students are able to make more progress in finishing their quilt
  • In Class Quilting

This quilt is made using small blocks, the horizontal setting and the blades are 3 sided. Nancy G. created this quilt in a class at Sewing Cottage.
